Class of 99 Sping 2024 Letter

Class of 1999 Classmates and Spouses,
I hope this email finds you all well and looking forward to our 25th Reunion this fall!! It is going to be a great time to catch up with old friends, company, and classmates and cheer on the Bulldogs!!
As you know, we will also be wrapping up our 25th Class Campaign, in which we will have a major impact on our Alma Mater and future generations of cadets. Along with Bill Yaeger, our Citadel Foundation liaison, we have been working on an incentive plan to finish this year, and the campaign, strong and meet our goal of adding $150,000 to our Class of 1999 Scholarship! As of the end of February, we have raised $74,364, just under 50% of our goal! The plan is outlined below and any classmate who participates in one of these challenges will automatically become a member of “The Society of 1999” (This society is not affiliated with The Citadel Foundation.)
- Any classmate who pledges $19,999 or $9,999, in a monthly pledge or a lump sum payment, will have their Homecoming Reunion activities that include Friday night, Saturday Tailgate, and the swag bag for this year comped by the class
- The monthly pledge (April 2024 – December 2027) for these levels is as follows:
- $19,999 – $444.42
- $9,999 - $222.20
- Any Classmate who pledges $1,999, in a monthly pledge or a lump sum, will be a member of The Society of 1999 and they will receive a set of 4 drink glasses. The monthly pledge amount for this level is $44.42.
- If you do not feel you can do this, we ask that you at a minimum make a monthly pledge to the campaign of $19.99 so that we can get our class participation rate for the campaign as high as we can.
Here is the link to our class giving page with The Citadel Foundation. You can set up your pledge or make your lump sum gift there. If you have any questions regarding the campaign or this challenge, please contact us or Bill Yaeger, ’83, at (843) 953-3842 or bill.yaeger@citadelfoundation.org. Also, keep in mind that a legacy gift, such as a will bequest or a life insurance policy is a great way to further fund our scholarship and become a member of The Legacy Society at The Citadel Foundation.
Again, we look forward to seeing everyone this fall.
Go Dogs, Will and Mike

Class of 1999 Scholarship
|
The Citadel Class of 1999 established an endowed scholarship in October 2018 to support a cadet or
cadets demonstrating financial need who possess those attributes of ability, character, temperament,
and personality that are in accord with the traditionally high standards of The Citadel. First preference
will be given to students who are genealogical descendants of the Class of 1999. In any given year, in
the event that no class of 1999 descendant is eligible, the scholarship may be awarded to any cadet or
cadets meeting the aforementioned criteria.
The college's Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships administers the scholarship program at The
Citadel. Endowed scholarships will be awarded on a year-to-year basis. Students who are recipients
one (1) year are eligible for consideration in subsequent years; however, they must again comply with
the selection criteria.
Through endowed scholarships, donors provide Citadel students the opportunity to receive the
education they deserve and the encouragement they need to prepare for their careers beyond Lesesne
Gate.

Methods of Giving
|
Current Gifts
- Cash / Recurring Cash Gifts: Includes any outright cash gifts (currency and check, excluding
any payments on pledges made before the campaign period).
- Pledge: A contribution over a designated period of time. Establishing a pledge enables you to
make a larger impact by scheduling monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, or annual installment
payments over the period of your gift.
- Marketable Securities: Any gift of securities (stocks, bonds and mutual funds) is counted at
market value as of the date they are transferred to The Citadel Foundation. Donor pays no
capital gains tax on a gift of appreciated securities.
Legacy Gifts
- Bequests: A bequest to benefit The Citadel can be included in the body of your will. You may
state a specific dollar amount, percentage of the estate, or specific assets to be given to The
Citadel Foundation. The class receives credit for the value of the bequest coming through the
estate. (Sample language - see additional attachment.)
- Life Insurance: The class receives credit for the face value of a donated policy. If an entity of
The Citadel is named as owner and beneficiary, the donor is allowed a deduction for the
premiums paid to keep the policy in force, as well as the cash surrender value of the policy or
total premiums paid to date; whichever is less. (Term insurance not accepted)
- In order for the gift to be counted, the policy must be a permanent policy that is
guaranteed to be in force at the donor's age of 95.
